Professor Sara Brown awarded the Ballantyne Prize

February 2025

We are pleased to announce that Prof Brown has been awarded the John W. Ballantyne Prize for ‘outstanding work on the pedigree or inheritance of disease’. This prestigious prize is awarded by the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh once every 3 years.

"I am honoured and delighted to have received this award. I am very grateful that the RCPE has recognised my dedication to improving patient care through clinical and research work. We continue to work hard towards better treatments for eczema patients" (Sara Brown)

Prof Brown celebrated this achievement by presenting her Ballantyne Prize lecture at the start of April. The lecture was entitled ‘What can molecular genetics teach us about the common complex trait of atopic eczema?’ and focused on the role of molecular genetics in the understanding of atopic eczema. Prof Brown received excellent feedback from those in attendance, including:

“Very engaging, passionate speaker. Pitched at exactly right level for clinical dermatologists, clear, well-structured and positive on the future directions for treating atopic eczema and its linked conditions” (anonymous attendee)

“Properly excellent speaker who talked about a complex topic in a clear and universally understandable fashion. Really quite impressive” (anonymous attendee)
