BEEP study published in The Lancet

The Brown Lab provided genetic expertise for the DNA analysis of samples from children taking part in the BEEP study – Barrier Enhancement for Eczema Prevention – to test whether emollients used from soon after birth could help to prevent eczema.

Unfortunately this wonderfully cheap, simple intervention proved ineffective (and a parallel paper found the same) … showing that more work is needed to understand skin barrier formation and function before we can hope to prevent atopic disease.
